Our Hoof Trimming Services

 Optimal Hoofcare for your Horses

As Holistic Hoofcare Professionals we aim to provide your horse/s with optimal and holistic hoofcare. We specialise in hoof orthopaedics and holistic lameness rehabilitation.

What it means to be a Holistic Hoofcare Professional:
  • Minimum of two years to become qualified
  • Theory, oral and practical examinations
  • Hours of experience in the field
  • Present case studies
  • Re-register every year: practical assessments and case studies before re-registration is approved

What we do is not just a trim. As you are probably aware, a trim done once a month is not going to make drastic improvements to your horses hooves without the addition of your input towards their lifestyle, living conditions, environment, etc. We take a holistic look at the horse's lifestyle, diet and workload along with its trimming needs. This is why you have some responsibilities as a horse owner when you become one of our clients.

The Owner's Responsibilities

  • You provide a clean, flat area for trimming, preferably under cover.
  • Your horse is caught, the hooves are picked out and cleaned, before we arrive.
  • Your horse's hooves are soaked in summer (when necessary).
  • You provide your horse with a healthy lifestyle and a herd life.
  • You provide your horse with the correct nutrition and maximum movement.
  • You may be required to do your own trimming in between our maintenance treatments.
  • Your horse needs to be safe and well-managed to trim so we can provide optimal trimming.
If you need help with your horse, we can offer services for this. Please check our "Other Services" page.

Pricing Schedule

First Trim Consultation - $70 per horse
We will talk about the horse's history, trot the horse and take photos before and after the trim. You will need to fill in our client form. We can also walk over your property to give some tips on your lifestyle setup.
Please allow about one hour for the initial trim.
Download our Client Form
Maintenance Trimming - from $50 to $65 per trim (depending on location and size of horse).
Trims are done on a regular schedule year round. We trim once every 4 weeks in the summer and once every 5 weeks in the winter.
Please allow about 45 minutes for a maintenance trim.
Please note: After initial trims, some horses may require more frequent trimming for a period of time depending on the health of the hooves.  If this is the case for your horse, then booking more frequent trims will be discussed.

What else is there to know?

We recommend that you read "A Lifetime of Soundness" by Dr Hiltrud Strasser prior to us visiting you for trimming - you can purchase a copy here: "A Lifetime of Soundness" in the HoofStore e-Shop

We do have a library of helpful books that we can lend to clients. Please tell us if you want to borrow one of our books before you buy anything.

As you can understand, there is a vast difference between every hoof trimmer, just as you would find with riding instructors. The majority of horse owners just want a quick/cheap paddock trim and do not realise that Holistic Hoofcare Professionals do a lot more than this, which is why you may find that our pricing is different from other hoof trimmers. It is important that people understand that there is a difference.

There is no negotiation for skipping trims or pushing out the trim cycle length. There may also be travel costs depending on location and the number of horses to be trimmed.
