Horsemanship Internship

Valley View Farms - Horsemanship Internship

Hello and welcome to our internship!

Our internship is a
unpaid volunteer position.

My partner, Todd and I have 60 acres of land and we run a holistic horses rehabilitation livery yard based on barefoot, bitless and track system methods. We have two sons (born 2020 and 2022). We live on the top of Okaihau Hill in the Northland, just a short drive to the forest pools, bush walks, the cycle way and only 25 minutes from the Bay of Islands. We would like to offer an internship with horses - come and join us for a natural horsemanship experience.
We offer an internship where you can learn to get along with horses and live with the land and farm animals. You will learn how to run a sustainable, biodynamic farm, grow and prepare your own vegetables and meat, the basics of horsemanship and animal care, the basics of trimming hooves, raising cows, sheep and chooks, and much more.  Riding lessons are available once a week.
We also run a charity house in Okaihau, where you are welcome to help.

As you may understand, farm life and horses require a lot of time and learning. We prefer people that will commit time to learn the skills that are needed to run the farm smoothly. This is why we require people to stay a minimum of 4 - 5 months. We are also keen to find people that are interested in our way of living and want to spend time learning about horsemanship and horses.

Tasks include walking horses around the track, picking up poo, feeding horses and other farm animals, child care, garden maintenance, milking the house cow and other farm jobs.

Below are the internship intake dates and a slight overview of what goes on during these periods:
